In Thailand, you meet Asian elephants, which are smaller than African ones. The Kuy community from Surin, the „Elephant City,“ has lived alongside them for generations, making them master caretakers with deep traditional knowledge.
With a pregnancy of 18–22 months, their brains develop complex memory and emotions. They form strong bonds with both humans and their herd, showing incredible emotional depth and learning ability.
A trunk has 40,000 muscles for breathing, drinking, and grasping. Tusks are elongated teeth; males without them are known as „Si Dor.“ Elephants drink around 100 liters of water per day—watch out, you might get splashed!
Elephants live in groups led by females. They sleep only 3–4 hours a day, often while standing! An adult elephant spends most of its day eating, consuming about 100–150 kg of food daily.
For your safety, please remember:
• Never walk behind an elephant (no rear-view mirrors!)
• Always follow the guide’s instructions
• Keep your valuables secure during the encounter.
